Detex Timed Bypass Exit Alarm Provides Constant Security At Restaurant Kitchen Doors

Detex Corporation is the exclusive manufacturer of a unique exit alarm designed to assure restaurant managers that delivery and trash doors are never left unmonitored. The EAX-3500 combines the features of an exit alarm and a door-prop alarm in a wall-mounted unit that cannot be turned off. Its bypass mode allows only a pre-selected amount of time before the alarm sounds.

“This is a different category of exit alarms,” said Ken Kuehler, National Accounts Manager of Detex. “It eliminates the risk that an employee will forget to re-arm it after the five or ten minutes necessary to accept a delivery or take out the trash, so it’s always watching the door.”

Using the main store key (rather than a key that fits only the alarm), the manager selects the time appropriate for most kitchen-door functions, ranging from five to forty minutes. The time is indicated on an LED light bar that clearly indicates armed status and bypass time.  At a glance, employees and delivery personnel can see how many minutes are remaining before the alarm sounds.  Powered by a low-voltage transformer, the 100dB alarm also has a rechargeable backup battery.  With tamper-resistant housing and circuits, the EAX-3500 is built to prevent employees from defeating the alarm.

“Managers can feel better about reducing the threat of robbery or theft,” said Kuehler. “With the EAX-3500 in place, the restaurant’s most vulnerable door is protected.”

Detex Outdoor Area System Offers Loss Prevention For Retailers

Detex Corporation offers a life safety and security hardware system designed specifically for retail buildings that have areas exposed to the weather. For garden center gates, restaurant patios, lumberyards, or building doors that at times stand open, the Outdoor Area System offers security without concern about hardware deterioration from exposure.

Certain retail applications require a combination of components, and the Outdoor Area System features a range of hardware designed for those needs. In addition, the system is scalable for more complex application requirements. Retail customers can select the exact combinations of components that suit their particular application and know that they will integrate easily with each other and function well in rain, snow and heat.

Outdoor Area System components include Detex weatherized delayed egress hardware to prevent shoppers from slipping out with merchandise; access control devices that  allow entry from an outside courtyard with a keypad or card reader; and door-propped alarms that produce an audible warning when a door is being propped or held open.

“Retailers can put together a system that keeps their premises secure in harsh environments,” said Ken Kuehler, National Accounts Manager at Detex. “Our weatherized components can take the elements without fail.”

Detex Automatic Swing Door Systems Meet Specific Needs In Hospitals And Medical Buildings

Detex Corporation, manufacturer of high-quality door hardware designed to meet the life safety and security requirements of commercial buildings, offers Automatic Swing Door Systems ideal for healthcare applications. Certain healthcare applications require a combination of components to meet the needs of specific applications.  Detex features a range of hardware designed specifically for healthcare uses. In addition, Detex provides complete systems that efficiently meet more complex application requirements. Customers can select the exact components that suit a certain application and know that the components will integrate easily with each other and function well as a system.

Detex Swing Door System components include the AO19 automatic door opener that can operate light or heavy doors in low energy applications and has controls mounted and pre-wired in one unit, as well as electrified Advantex® panic hardware, keypads and card readers. These can be used for interior doors where the general public can access a wall button or authorized personnel can use a keypad or card reader, or for exterior doors that open with a wall button for assisted entry during the day and restricted entry after hours.

“Detex is the only manufacturer that integrates all these hardware components,” said Ken Kuehler, National Accounts Manager at Detex.  “We even offer preconfigured EasyKits® that install easily with any hardware already in place, such as door prop alarms, camera setups, or roaming-alert systems used in assisted living facilities.”

Detex Outdoor Area System Offers Patient Security For Healthcare Facilities

Detex Corporation provides a life safety and security hardware system designed specifically for healthcare facilities that have courtyards and gardens where patients or residents spend time. Especially useful for assisted living facilities where gates need to be secured with panic hardware, this weatherized system makes sure that residents can’t wander beyond the premises and are secure from outsiders who might try to get in.

Certain healthcare applications require a combination of components and the Outdoor Area System features a range of hardware designed for those needs.  In addition, the system is scalable for more complex application requirements.  Healthcare facility customers can select the exact combinations of components that suit their particular application and know that they will integrate easily with each other and function well in rain, snow and heat.

New Battery Powered Door-Propped Alarm Simplifies Retrofits

Detex Corporation now offers the EAX-300 Battery Powered Door-Propped Alarm that sounds an alert when a secured door is propped open. It provides a low-cost security solution because it requires no electrical connection and is quick and easy to install.

“Propping can defeat the whole security system, but some customers hesitate to install a wired alarm because of the electrical connection requirements,” said Ken Kuehler, national accounts manager for Detex Corporation. “The battery powered alarm is a practical solution that’s especially useful in retrofitting situations because it saves money as well as space.”

The EAX-300 can be field-set for door-open times ranging from one second to two minutes, with a 15-second default.  A 100-decibel alarm alerts employees, then silences when the door is closed so there is no waiting for a key-holder to arrive.  A 9-volt battery with low battery/LED alert powers the alarm. Accurate installation is foolproof, with a patented plastic template that indicates alignment with the internal magnetic door contact. Weatherized models are available for outside doors.

“Of course, Detex also offers hard-wired alarms,” said Kuehler. “But customers who have very tight budgets or unusual installation problems really like this battery powered option.”

Detex Announces Mechanical Watchman’s Clocks Retirement

Since Detex Corporation was established in 1923, our Newman, Guardsman and Safe-T-Chek watchman’s clocks have become icons in the history of America’s security industry, and have helped to cement our reputation for Quality, Service and Reliability.

Since the early 1990s, however, the market has gradually moved away from the mechanical clocks and toward more technologically advanced guard tour solutions, such as our GCS Escorte system and, more recently, our proximity-based GCS ProxiPen.

Accordingly, we have decided that the time is right to retire our venerable watchman’s clocks. Therefore, Detex Corporation will discontinue the production and sale of the Newman, Guardsman, Safe-T-Chek and Newman Quartz watchclocks effective December 31, 2011.

It is our goal and our plan to continue to support current users of these watchclocks for the next five (5) years, or through December 31, 2016, to include repair parts, service and consumables (tapes and dials). We are currently organizing the production and procurement of adequate inventory to allow us to meet that goal.

For end users of Detex watchclocks who wish to take this opportunity to transition to either a ProxiPen or Reliant system, we are prepared to offer appropriate discounting.

We appreciate the trust placed in Detex by the security industry that has made these products viable and relevant for so many years. You can read about the evolution of the mechanical watchman’s clock by visiting the Detex Watchman’s Clock Album at http://watchclocks.org.

Detex Introduces Game-Changing Door Security

Detex Corporation, an industry leader in life safety and security hardware for commercial properties, has designed and engineered the next generation of multi-point locking security door hardware. Built for maximum strength, the new 230X hardware features heavy-duty, three-bolt construction that provides a uniquely high level of toughness against attempted intrusion.

Ideal for back doors requiring both panic hardware and high-level protection from break-ins, the 230X is designed to put more deadbolt deeper into the frame than other locks in the category. Connecting rods are made of continuous solid metal, rather than the hollow-rod/cable construction common in the category.

“This is a new generation of security for commercial applications,” said Detex National Accounts Manager Ken Kuehler. “The industry has told us that in order for a multi-point lock to be reliable it must be easy to install. Our patented, paperless template makes this installation easy and assures a securely locked door every time.”

Exclusive to Detex, the 230X is life safety and code compliant, and functions both as panic hardware and as the strongest hardware of its type in the industry. It has been engineered and constructed with top quality components to ensure the reliable performance for which Detex products are known – as well as to give businesses the best possible protection against back door break-ins.

For more than a century, Detex has earned the trust of architects and owners who rely on Detex products for the safety and security of people and property. A USA company, Detex designs, manufactures, markets and ships products around the world from New Braunfels, Texas. Detex Introduces Delayed Egress-Latch Retraction Device

Detex Corporation, an industry leader in life safety and security door hardware for commercial properties, is introducing an exclusive advancement in exit devices. Designed for applications such as health care facilities, where security is a high priority for protection of patients and employees, the patented Detex Delayed Egress/Latch Retraction device integrates both functions for more efficient operation.

Health care staff find the practical Delayed Egress/Latch Retraction design well-suited to department routines – for example, controlling access to surgical suites from holding areas, or restricting entry to nursery areas or pharmacy facilities. They also appreciate the smooth pushpad, which doesn’t snag on clothing or equipment.

The Delayed Egress/Latch Retraction device has no external magnets, electric strikes or electric trims. Everything is contained in the rim device, so there are fewer components to install, and fewer to malfunction and affect performance.  Operation is simple:  for authorized personnel, the latch retraction operates with the access control system, bypassing delayed egress to allow exit and entry without sounding the alarm.  But unauthorized entry triggers a 100dB alarm and keeps the door locked for 15 seconds, allowing time for staff to respond. A fire alarm input provides life safety override for immediate exit during a fire emergency.

“Detex is the first and only manufacturer with this combination of functions in one device,” said Ken Kuehler, Detex Corporation National Accounts Manager. “It’s a very practical solution for health care or law enforcement or airport facilities because it streamlines the entry/exit process.  And it’s built to stand up to heavy use and abuse in high traffic areas.”

For more than a century, Detex has earned the trust of architects and owners who rely on Detex products for the safety and security of people and property. A USA company, Detex designs, manufactures, markets and ships products around the world from New Braunfels, Texas.
