Phishing & Spam E-mails

Phishing & Spam E-mails

We have been advised that e-mails appearing to come from Detex regarding payment inquiries have been received by representatives, distributors and end users. While these e-mails may look like they were sent by Detex, they almost certainly were not.

Scammers use e-mail to trick you into giving personal information, such as passwords, account numbers, social security numbers, etc. If scammers get such information, they could gain access to your e-mail, bank account, or other personal accounts.

Detex does not:

  • Send e-mails to warn you about suspicious activity or login attempts
  • Request clarification of personal information (such as social security number, bank account information, or passwords) via e-mail
  • Send fake invoices or force you to click a link to make a payment
  • Send e-mails stating you’re eligible for a refund
  • Offer coupons, rebates, or freebies via e-mail
  • Compel you to open an attachment, such as a Word or text document, in order to view relevant information
  • Send you an e-mail saying your e-mail account has been locked

If you receive an e-mail that appears to have come from Detex that has any of the characteristics listed above, contact Detex directly.

How to protect yourself from phishing attacks

  • Use computer security software and keep it updated, either manually or automatically
  • Use mobile phone automatic software updates
  • Use multi-factor authentication on your e-mail accounts
    • Passcodes via text or authentication apps
    • Scan fingerprint, retina or face
  • Back up your data and make sure the backups are not connected to your home network

If you think you clicked on a link or opened an attachment that downloaded harmful software, update your computer’s security software, then run a full scan.

Phishing
Noun
The fraudulent practice of sending e-mails purporting to be from reputable companies in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, such as passwords and credit card numbers.

For more information on phishing, and how to report it to the government, see the US government’s article on phishing scams.

Detex Joins the National Shoplifting Prevention Coalition as a Founding Supporter

Melville NY – 2/6/2020 – The National Association for Shoplifting Prevention (NASP) and its Retail Advisory Committee welcome Detex as one of the first founding supporters of the National Shoplifting Prevention Coalition (NSPC). The addition of new members and supporters like Detex brings new expertise and diverse points of view in to the Coalition’s collaborative effort to reduce shoplifter recidivism using education.

“By joining and supporting the Coalition, Detex is helping retailers and communities address the issues at the root of retail crime and theft. Their support will have a long-term impact on retail loss and will improve both store and community safety” noted NASP Executive Director Caroline Kochman. “Industry leading companies like Detex will bring significant value and offer new insight to the Coalition; adding to the strength already rooted in its veteran asset protection leaders.”

“Joining and supporting the NSPC gives us an opportunity to truly partner long term with retailers on a project where we will be exponentially more effective as group than as individual companies,” said Tim Shafer, Marketing Manager at Detex. “Through this initiative, we hope that our collective resources will result in significant social impact – for stores, for communities, for the human beings who are given a second-chance through education.”

Rhett Asher, co-chair of the NASP Advisory Committee noted, “I applaud Tim and the team at Detex who see the value in an ongoing investment in improving lives and communities; in championing an industry cause right where the problem begins – before a bad decision leads a vulnerable person down the path to ORC or worse. Being part of the Coalition’s collective voice and effort, gives us all the opportunity to change the trajectory of young people’s lives in a real way, and on a daily basis.”

About Detex: For more than a century, Detex has earned the trust of millions of property owners to secure and protect their people and property. From our newest innovations in life safety and security door hardware, integrated door security systems, and guard tour verification technologies to our original Watchman’s clocks, Detex, a USA company, designs, manufactures, markets and ships our products from New Braunfels, TX and is recognized as a best-in-class life safety, security and security assurance solutions provider, worldwide.

About the National Shoplifting Prevention Coalition (NSPC): As a project of the NASP Advisory Committee under the stewardship of NASP, the Coalition is the result of a belief that retail AP/LP is more effective as whole rather than as isolated actors; that their collective voice and collective resources can impact the future and create commercially sustainable social impact for all. Thus, Coalition members seek to harness the power of a collective voice in an industry-wide effort to drive change in the response to shoplifting; leverage proven education strategies to reduce recidivism and positively impact loss and safety; champion socially responsible & community centric strategies to address shoplifting not just in retail stores but in the wider community; and engage NASP as a non-profit organization with a rich history in criminal justice and offender education to drive and sustain the effort.

About NASP: Incorporated in 1989 as a non-profit organization under IRS code 501(c)(3), the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention is the nation’s leading provider of shoplifter education programs. Trusted by more than 4,000 criminal justice professionals in 2,000 jurisdictions around the U.S., NASP’s offense-specific education programs have a court-documented recidivism rate of less than 3%. NASP’s mission is to raise public awareness about the harmful effects of shoplifting on youth, families and communities, unite public opinion toward constructive solutions, deliver needed programs and services and engage community action in prevention efforts to improve the lives of those affected and reduce the number of people who become involved. All NASP efforts are driven by one overarching goal – to reduce shoplifter recidivism.

Protecting Retail Spaces in a Changing Landscape

As retail businesses evolve alongside the rapid growth of e-commerce, curbside pickup and mixed-use developments – where storefronts share space with offices or residences – security must adapt. Whether it’s a standalone shop or part of a multi-level, multi-tenant complex, retail operations need durable, flexible life safety and security hardware that performs under pressure.

Why Modern Security Solutions are Critical to Modern Retail Environments

  • High-value inventory: Retail locations often house valuable goods that require physical protection.
  • Frequent customer access: High foot traffic increases the need for clear exit paths and controlled entry.
  • Employee safety: Staff must be protected whether it’s regular hours and after-hours operations.
  • Theft prevention: Both internal and external theft are ongoing concerns in retail.
  • Multi-use buildings: Retail spaces often share structures with residential or office units, requiring smart separation of access.
  • Rise of e-commerce: Retailers are increasingly using warehouses and fulfillment centers instead of traditional storefronts, demanding industrial-grade security for large inventories and logistics operations.
  • Curbside and delivery logistics: Securing delivery doors and managing access for curbside pickups and service vendors has become essential for modern customer convenience and loss prevention.

Detex Guard Tour System Delivers Reliable Reads For Healthcare Facilities

A long-time leader in guard tour equipment, Detex Corporation is continuing the tradition with a complete system for guard tour verification and other data collection tasks. The GCS® ProxiPen System is increasingly in use at healthcare facilities, not only for security rounds, but for daily inspections and preventative maintenance.

At the center of the system, the ProxiPen uses advanced proximity technology that provides consistently dependable data inside or outside, even when weather conditions are not good. Powered by one AA battery, the ProxiPen autosenses and reads RFID tags whether they are concealed or visible.

Also a part of the system, TopGuard Patrol Software makes it easy to download and evaluate collected data and prepare reports. And TopGuard Patrol Plus extends capacity and offers more reporting options. ProxiPen Kits include everything needed for quick set-up of the complete system according to your needs.
“This system is ideal for healthcare facility rounds,” said Detex National Accounts Manager Ken Kuehler. “The data collected is very useful for building management, and can even help lower liability and insurance costs.”

Detex introduces a maximum security, multi-point lock so big and strong that it stands up to assault by the bad guys and reduces employee and customer theft.

The ECL-230X-TDB is a heavy-duty, easy to install three-bolt multi-point lock whose construction takes panic hardware to a whole new level of toughness and eases your back-door security worries. It is designed with a larger deadbolt that goes deeper into the frame than other locks in the category. Connecting rods are solid steel, rather than the less reliable hollow rod/cable construction. Life safety and code compliant, the new Detex ECL-230X-TDB serves as both panic hardware and a maximum-strength locking device.

Combining the ECL-230X-TDB with Detex’s DX Bolts provides an additional line of defense against break-ins via additional locking points. Even if the exterior door hinges are compromised the DX bolts keep the door locked and secure. These passive deadbolts are easy to install and offer another layer of attack resistance. Add suffix DX3 (ECL-230X-TDB-DX3) for 6 locking points for even stronger security.

How tough is the ECL-230X-TDB? Independent laboratory testing proves a door secured by the ECL-230X-TDB, and when combined with 3 DX Bolts can withstand 16,000 lbs. of pull force.

Optional accessories include rod covers, bottom bolt guard, hinge side locking (DX) bolts, Battery Eliminator (BE-961), and inside pull handle. For outdoor installation, an adjustable gate plate is available.

ECL-230X models include:

Almost all hardware and accessories can be customized with different finishes, colors, sizes, and more. Ask us how this new generation of life safety and security hardware can make a powerful difference at your back door.
